John Sawtel is the earliest Sawtel that can be identified as an ancestor. He was probably born about 1525 to 1535. His wife was named Agnes (last name unknown). He also used the alias Dolman, as his will indicates. He referred to his children as Dolman. There is no explanation for the use of this alias, which his children also used.
