4th Generation in America
Surname spelled “Sartwell” beginning with this generation
Simon Sartwell was born on November 14, 1722 in Charlestown, New Hampshire and married Hannah (last name unknown). After Hannah's death in 1771, he married Mary (last name unknown). Simon and Hannah had eight children:
At some point in time (the exact date is unknown) when Fort #4 was in
danger during the Cape Breton War, a band of militia commanded by Robert
Dinsmoor (1692-1751) came to the fort's assistance from Windham, NH.
Little did Robert Dinsmoor and Simon Sartwell (Obidiah Jr's. son) dream
that some one hundred plus years later in 1850, two of their
great-grandchildren, namely Helen Milne Dinsmore and William Lovell
Sartwelle, would meet in Texas and be married.
After Hannah died, Simon, Sr. married Mary ??. They had one son, Asa,
who died in infancy. Although Simon, Jr. was grown when his father
remarried he must have grown to love his step mother, Mary, very deeply,
as he referred to her as his mother in his will and instructed his wife,
Dolly, to care for her as long as she should live.
