William Lovell Sartwelle was born on February 4, 1821 in Claremont, New Hampshire and married Helen Milne Dinsmore on July 18, 1850 in Matagorda County, Texas. He died on November 2, 1897 in Comanche, Texas and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Comanche, Lot 15, Avenue A. William and Helen had two children:

	William Dinsmore Sartwelle
	Henry Sartwelle

William Dinsmore Sartwelle was William Lovell Sartwell's only child who survived to adulthood. We do not know when or why William Lovell Sartwelle added the silent "e" to his name. William was a Confederate soldier in the American Civil War.
